Free Tools to Build Your Website Featured

There are a multitude of reasons to have your own website. Whether it is simply for personal use, to document a personal or health journey, to promote a service or sell goods, or as a functional tool for promotion and use in your business, a website may be something you want to do. But just because you want to do it doesn’t mean you know what to do about it.

Website companies are happy to make whatever you want. Really. As long as you are willing to pay a little extra for every additional thing you want beyond the basic cookie cutter. Oh, and there’s a charge for that as well. You don’t have to pay huge fees to build a website. Yes, you need to buy your custom domain if you want one. Yes, you have to pay for hosting. To build your site, there are a lot of free tools to help you make a great website without the extra fees.

Visuals are important to websites, but where to find free photos and illustrations that you can use without worrying about being sued? You can start by trying some of these services:

  • New Old Stock is a free collection of vintage photos for public use. All free.
  • Cupcake allows you to copy, modify, distribute and use any work for commercial purposes. They are all high res with lots of nature images.

Fonts and font packages can be found at Google Webfonts, where you can filter the way you want your font to appear. Typegenius asks you to choose a font to begin with and it will find some that are similar for your viewing. Font Squirrel has some fun, funky fonts with all kinds of ways to find the perfect one for your site.

You probably want icons, don’t you? Well, Font Awesome has them. Go ahead and download the package of scalable vector icons. 519 of them, I believe. That will probably be enough.
